Back to School

Big (and early) day today! Lucy and Fiona's first day in the German School in Washington DC. No, we haven't turned into the "pushy parents from hell" (who send their kids to school while on holiday). It's just that this was one of the conditions from the school in London that the kids have to visit a school while travelling.

The German School in Washington is located in Maryland, west of Washington DC. It's in a very quiet, green area. It took us about 30 minutes this morning to drive there (and we got there far too early). At least, with the bodyclock still being partly on UK time the getting-up-early bit is still easy for us...

The first day at school went well. The new teachers and kids in the class made Lucy and Fiona feel very welcome right from the start. Lucy's first class was ... a maths test. Well, talk about bad timing!!! Fiona, on the other hand, was more lucky, they even have a guinea pig in her class.

After school we drove into the center of Washington DC and saw some of the highlights (incl. The White House, Capitol and the many monuments). It's all close by so that's the good news. Parking (or rather the lack of it) was the bad news. Finally, we managed to drop the car and have our first walk around. Straight to the next ice cream vendor...
