First Stop - Washington D.C.

Arrived safely in Washington. Fiona threw up in the mini cab before we even got to Heathrow Airport, Lucy did likewise but on the plane as we had already landed in New York for a stop-over. So, "1 all" on that count. When we finally got to Washington, we were met by our friends Lori, Mike, GraceAnn and Evan at the airport. It was great to see them again! We are staying at their lovely house in Arlington, Virginia. It's a really charming house in a beautiful green neigbourhood - a bit like on Wysteria Lane from Desperate Housewives(but without the intrigues, of course). We managed to stay up till about 9.00 pm (local time), but then the body clock got the better of us (bearing in mind it was way past mid-night (UK time).

After a good night sleep we were up crack of dawn this morning (again, that body clock thing). We got a guided tour of GraceAnn's and Evan's school which looks lovely. Afterwards we took our rental car for a little tour of the neighbourhood. Somehow we managed not to get lost in the gigantic Target Superstore. Our favourite retail find was "Heidelberg" though, a local bakery, which is, you guessed it, German!!! So that's the calories sorted for the next 2 weeks.
