Monuments, monuments and more monuments

Already three days of school behind us (...or rather behind Lucy and Fiona) in Washington DC - and it's the weekend!!! School has been great, especially Fiona seems to love it. Today her class did a school trip to a butterfly farm, which sounded like lots of fun. Lucy's class, by comparison, seems more like hard work (including homework and tests).

While the kids are at school, Sabine and I are having some lessons of our own - mainly in the topics "Morning coffees at Starbucks" and "American retail shopping". Thank God we are limited by the suitcase space that we have...!

After school we are visiting the many attractions that Washington has to offer, and there are many. Because of the hot weather we usually pick one destination per day. So far we have seen The White House and The Capitol (both from the outside), the Museum of the Native Americans (from the inside, too) and many of the fantastic monuments: Washington Monument, Lincoln Monument, Vietnam War Memorial Monument, Korean War Memorial Monument etc. etc. You name it, and we've seen it.

Mike, whose family we are staying with, also has access to the Fort Myers Army base (right next to Arlington cemetery) and - bingo - has therefore access to the Olympic-size outdoor pool that comes with it. Fantastic refreshment in the heart of the city with more lifeguards than visitors. The kids love (...and so do I).
